Best Wii Shooting Games
Let me be the first to admit that my Wii U hard drive is full. Of course, that is no surprise with the number of games that the console has gone through. One thing that always remains the same is that shooting games are easily our favorite. Not only are they a lot of fun, but they offer a playable experience that I don’t mind coming back to, even years later. The titles on this list for the best Wii shooting games are quite outdated, some are even more than 10 years old, but that doesn’t matter. The Wii U is a console that produced games that are similar to a fine wine, better with age!

Call of Duty Ghosts for the Wii U is a great game, and will continue to be one of our favorites for a long time. Don’t let the age of this game fool you. Infinity Ward and Activision released this gem back in 2013, but nearly 10 years later it still offers a lot for it’s gaming community. This first person shooter was the 10th release in the Call of Duty franchise and it is no joke. Although it can be played on just about any console, it really shines on the Wii U despite the negative feedback it received on single player.
Whether you are controlling the main story line through the actions of Logan, our main character, or a German Shepherd named Riley, the game is exhilarating. Once again, we return to the future, but in a post apocalyptic era following a nuclear fallout in the Middle East. Naturally, you encounter all sorts of conflicts as you control the Ghosts, the main protagonists, an elite group of US special forces soldiers. The game features many of the same old multiplayer games as well, offering hours of countless fun. We highly suggest giving it a try, especially now that the price has come down.
Splatoon for the Wii U is a whole lot of fun. Kids and adults can enjoy this one together as it features a new and refreshing approach on third person shooters. Many have toted Splaton as one of the best Wii U games today, with new releases constantly being worked on. As you splatter your oponents and dominate the map with your Inklings, Nintendo reminds you just how much fun it is to be a kid again.
The game modes are nothing we haven’t seen before as you compete against other teams, death-match style, as you try to paint the map with your team colors. Think of it as turf wars, and instead of marking gang symbols with graffiti, your squirting paint everywhere while blasting your foes. The best part about this game? It just keeps getting better. Between the new releases, new weapons, maps and mods, this Wii U shooter game will keep you busy for hours. If you want our humble opinion, it is arguably the best on our list.
Sniper Elite V2 probably has the best story line for a Wii U. Honestly, it would make for a great movie or even a TV series. It offers a dark feel as you play the role of an elite US sniper that is tasked with preventing the Nazi’s from furthering their Nuclear warfare program with it getting into the wrong hands, the Red Army (Russians). Your role is simple, take out targets and thwart the Red Army’s mission.
I am not sure what it is about this game, but playing it on the Wii U is an amazing, immersive and real experience. Starting from when you parachute in behind enemy lines, to sneaking around the dark ruins of a once flourishing city, it just gives you a sense of terror and dread. If you enjoy the WW2 era, or enjoy a slower video game that has a great story, this is the best Wii U shooter game you can play. It also comes available on just about any console if you like to game across platforms.
House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return is not for the faint of heart, nor is it a new game. The combined games are Sega originals that were released in 2008. However, these are a ton of fun when brought to the Wii U. House of the Dead 2 and 3 both offered an arcade style game play, as you take on hordes of angry, blood thirsty zombies hoping to rip you to shreds.
There isn’t anything new and exciting about this release, but don’t let the outdated graphics fool you. Sort of like when you play the old GoldenEye 007 game, you instantly forget about the sub-par graphics and are once again immersed into your favorite classic N64 games. There is something satisfying about slaying zombies on a Wii U, you’ll just have to try and see for yourself.
Call of Duty Black Ops II will forever be my all time favorite game. Not for the quality of the game, but because of how easy it is to play over and over again. Released in 2012, Activision did an amazing job with this first person shooter. When played on the Wii U, it is that much better. Whether you are playing one of the many arcade style games, like One in the Chamber, playing an intense game of Search and Destroy, or just rocking the solo campaign, it is a game you can play for hours.
The story takes place between 1980 and 2025, offering the best of both worlds for those that either like the old fashion style weapons or the more futuristic game play. Naturally, the story takes place with you, a member of the Black Ops Special Forces as you try to take down a Nicaraguan cartel leader named Raul Martinez. As you progress through the campaign, you switch between Alex Mason and his son, David. Both of which are members of the Black Ops, father and son! Whether you have never played Black Ops 2, or just haven’t experienced it on the Wii U, we strongly suggest giving it a try.
ZombiU is another zombie apocalypse game that may not be for everyone, especially those that scare easy. In this zombie infested world, you take the role of a survivor in London, tasked with defending a safe house while also trying to find a cure for the zombie outbreak. As you navigate through the city, finding resources for your under ground shelter, you are met with all sorts of obstacles as you fight for your own survival. Not only must you survive from the various zombie types, but also other humans as well.
Although ZombiU was released in 2012, the graphics and game play are on the same level as most games today. Despite some negative criticism that Ubisoft has received for their games being under developed and ridden with bugs, ZombiU us quite the exception. Whether you want to exclusively play on the Wii U, or share screen time across platforms, ZombiU is available on every major console. The one bit of advice I have for those that scare easily, you may want to hold off on using that flash light in the dark, the zombies are attracted to light. You’ve been warned.
By now, you’re probably wondering why this list is all about zombie games. Well, that’s because zombie games pair well with the Wii U which is why they make for some of the best Wii shooting games. Between utilizing the Wii U gaming controls, and providing a fully immersive gaming experience, zombie games are great for those that want to feel like they are in the game. I’ll be honest, being scared isn’t always the best feeling, but if you are ranking these games based on how much they impact you (or raise your heart rate), Resident Evil Revelations is at the top of our list.
Released in 2012 by Capcom, Resident Evil Revelations is a third person horror video game. The game is played through the actions of the main protagonist, Jill Valentine, a counter-terrorism agent tasked with stopping a bio-terrorist that plans to release a deadly virus. The game features a few different game play types and they obviously involve killing zombies, but would you expect anything else from such a title? If you want to pass the time and reacquaint yourself within the Resident Evil universe, we highly recommend returning to this game.
What kind of list would this be if I didn’t include the good-ole classic, Cabella’s Dangerous Hunts 2013. If you are going to put together a list of the best Wii shooting games, you don’t need to look any further than this hunting game. Although it was released in 2013, it’s honestly a game you can return to at any moment for the simple fun of it. Not your typical Activision published game, but it is still just as deadly.
The game takes place in Uganda where you and your brother are celebrating your father’s birthday, or rather, honoring his life. In the beginning of the game, you learn that your father was killed by a bear during a hunting trip in Alaska. Fast forward to Uganda and you are tasked with hunting down a mythical black lion. As you hunt this mythical beast, you not only have to save your brother, you must relive the past as you replay flashbacks in Alaska. Once again, this game is a great option for a Wii U shooting game, especially if you enjoy hunting at all.
Whether you are new to gaming on a Wii U, or are just looking for the best Wii U shooting games that you may have missed, all of these titles are great options. It just goes to show you how amazing of a console the Wii U is that you can replay games that are nearly 10 years old and they are just as fun as ever. Whether you are playing by yourself, or with a group of people, you’ll be able to find the perfect game above. These games also range across maturity levels, giving you a full spectrum of games that people can play across all ages. If you decide to buy one of these, let us know how you like it!
